Farworld Pioneers

Overview

Farworld Pioneers is a 2D online sci-fi sandbox where players explore alien planets, build and defend colonies, and travel between worlds. The game combines co-op and PvP multiplayer with colony simulation, base building, crafting, and AI-driven colonists who can be recruited, trained, and automated to run your settlements.

My Role

Unity gameplay engineer on Farworld Pioneers at IglooSoft Games, focused on systems programming and in-world behaviors.

Key Contributions

  • Developed gameplay systems and tooling for Farworld Pioneers, supporting a 2D online multiplayer sandbox experience.
  • Built procedural generation systems for world content, helping populate planets with points of interest and encounter spaces.
  • Implemented dynamic weather that interacts with the environment and player experience, contributing to atmosphere and challenge.
  • Created AI event directors to orchestrate encounters, raids, and ambient events, keeping the world feeling reactive and alive.
  • Implemented pathing logic and behaviors for in-world critters and NPCs, ensuring they navigate complex 2D terrain and structures reliably.
  • Collaborated with design to tune systems for pacing, difficulty, and colony survivability in both solo and multiplayer play.
