Monster Walk

Overview

Monster Walk: Step Adventure is a mobile fitness RPG where your real-world steps power an RPG-style journey. As you walk, jog, or run, you push back a creeping fog, rebuild a shattered world, battle enemies in real-time encounters, and recruit magical creatures to your team. Your daily movement fuels stamina, exploration, base upgrades, and monster progression, turning everyday walking into a light monster-collector adventure rather than a traditional pedometer app.

My Role

Lead engineer at Talofa Games on Monster Walk: Step Adventure, responsible for core architecture, gameplay systems, and the technical backbone that ties step tracking, combat, and world progression into a coherent live product.

Key Contributions

  • Led engineering across the codebase, owning the overall runtime structure, technical direction, and code quality standards for a multi-system Unity mobile title.
  • Designed and implemented the core step-to-gameplay pipeline, where real-world steps convert into in-game stamina, progression, and base/world rebuilding.
  • Built or directed key gameplay systems: real-time battles, encounter flow, monster collection and progression, and base/world upgrade logic driven by accumulated steps.
  • Collaborated closely with design to create a combat loop that feels like a game-first experience, not a fitness tracker: responsive battles, readable telegraphs, and step-powered skills rather than raw distance grind.
  • Helped integrate and tune content systems (monsters, biomes, events) so that world rebuilding, exploration, and collection scale with long-term player activity.
  • Worked with production and the Run Legends team to share and evolve learnings around movement-driven design, retention, and mobile live operations across Talofa’s titles.

Tech Stack

  • Unity
  • C#
  • Mobile (iOS and Android)
  • Step tracking and movement-driven progression
  • Real-time combat and content systems for a free-to-play mobile RPG

Why This Example Matters

  • Demonstrates experience as lead engineer on a commercial mobile RPG that uses real-world movement as the core input.
  • Shows ability to architect and deliver a multi-system Unity game (combat, monsters, base building, world progression) on top of fitness/step data.
  • Reinforces experience in game-first fitness design: making daily movement feel like meaningful RPG progress instead of a raw step counter.
  • Provides evidence of leading engineering on a second shipped title at the same studio, following Run Legends, within a live-ops and mobile F2P context.
