Run Legends!

Overview

Run Legends is an interactive fitness battle game where your real-world movement powers your attacks and abilities. By walking or running outside, you and your friends fight “Sappers” that represent real-life anxieties, unlock gear and missions, and play a cooperative, interval-training-inspired experience that tries to make high-intensity cardio actually fun.

My Role

Senior gameplay / systems engineer focused on core runtime architecture, movement and step integration, and the systems that keep the game shippable as a live service.

Key Contributions

  • Implemented and maintained the movement → gameplay bridge, wiring step tracking and pacing into combat pacing and encounter flow.
  • Worked on the runtime architecture and dependency-injected systems that supported missions, enemies, and gear without hard-coding every case.
  • Helped design and integrate systems for daily goals, rewards, and progression loops built around consistent movement rather than one-off workouts.
  • Supported real-time multiplayer co-op sessions, including state sync and session flow for players running in different locations.
  • Collaborated with design and audio to ensure the “heads-up” user experience worked without players staring at their phone, relying on VO, music, and haptics.
  • Contributed to tools and debug workflows for live tuning of enemies, intervals, and rewards as the game evolved post-launch.

Tech Stack

  • Unity
  • C#
  • Mobile (iOS and Android)
  • Step tracking and health / fitness integrations
  • Real-time online play and backend-connected systems

Why This Example Matters

  • Demonstrates experience shipping and operating a mobile live service that blends fitness and real-time multiplayer on iOS and Android. (App Store)
  • Shows practical work on systems that tie real-world telemetry (steps, pace) into moment-to-moment gameplay and long-term progression. (Google Play)
  • Reinforces ability to work as a senior engineer on a cross-disciplinary team, balancing design goals, technical constraints, and live-ops needs in a complex Unity mobile codebase.

How to Play

Run Legends is available for free on both major mobile platforms:

  • On Android: Run Legends: Make fitness fun! on Google Play.
  • On iOS: Run Legends: Make fitness fun! on the App Store.
